Friends of Animals: April Update and Spring Bazaar

Friends of Animals RethymnonFriends of Animals RethymnonGood News. A new home has been found for Pelegrina the donkey — eagle eyed readers may notice a subtle name change — as ‘he’ turned out to be a ‘she’! According to the vet, the swelling on her face was due to her having been fed corn, and the injury on the leg was easily treated with a course of antibiotics. Happily, Mr. Nikos Varthakis has agreed to re-home Pelegrina in Plakias.

Friends of Animals Rethymno are now sending out their own newsletter and re-homing lists via email. If you would like to be on the mailing list, or are able to volunteer, email christinastylianides75@hotmail.com or phone FAR on 6975720313. You will also find links on the www.rethymnon.biz website. You can find out more about the work of the organisation on the www.animals.rethymnon.org website. FAR are now finding it increasingly difficult to re-home older dogs—some as young as 7 months old– so if you can help, please do!

SUNDAY, MAY 11th SPRING BAZAAR!
This will be held at Camping Elizabeth, in Missiria, just East of Rethymnon, from 10am to 2pm. Book your own stall for €20. FAR are urgently looking for donations of cakes, books, household and electrical items, plants and bric-a-brac.
Contact Clodagh on 6945170226, Nellie on 6937240399, or Antje on 6976010650

Gerani Hillside Walk, Easter Monday, 28th April, with Jorunn Solheim and Hans Saetrevik

The walk is a circular route from the seaside at Gerani to the hillside behind and back again. Up in the hills there are good views around the area.
Meeting point: 10.00 am in Gerani by the sea beside the chapel and a taverna. Gerani is about 6 km east of the the turn-off to Episkopi on the new National road and approximately 5 km west of Rethymnon. From the west, take the turn off the National road to the right signed to Gerani (just before the bridge) and after some metres take the little road to the left down to the sea. From the east, take the turn off towards Gerani to the left (just after the bridge) and as above towards the sea.
Distance/time: About 11 km, about 3.5 hours walking + stops, with a total 400 m ascent/descent
Grade: Medium walk, mostly on roads – surfaced and “agrotiki” roads. Over the highest point Nippi, we will be walking about 1.2 km in rough terrain, some places with a lot of stones. Good walking shoes and a stick are recommended.
Cost: €2 euro per person, which will be used to help an animal charity in Rethymnon.
Picnic: Bring your own food. After the walk we can stop for a drink or something to eat at the taverna by the sea.
Booking: Jorunn Solheim / Hans Saetrevik 693 6484 156 or 28310 32088, or e-mail: jorunn.solheim@gmail.com, by 18.00 Friday 25th April. Please let us know if you will join us for the meal after the walk when booking. Also, please leave a contact number so we can let you know of any change in arrangements.

This is a support group not a therapy group, and confidentiality is a given. There is no fee.
