Kimberley and Peter: Crete Kennels Update

Kimberley and Peter have kindly supplied us with this month’s progress report: “Well, we promised you an update….and it’s close (so the builders say), YES, it is, but all concerned want to get it right. So it’s still a case of finishing off those ‘minor’ details before we open for business. Electricity would be a help, but of course we have to say that! And, to explain the final picture, all the builders, electricians, etc. etc. are trying to make it perfect. This often means answering those niggles as they arise. It’s amazing that we are now talking about ‘half-inch’ adjustments (sorry: ‘1 cm’!) with the workers — and they are understanding—albeit using Greek / Albanian / Arabic, much waving of arms and rough sketches on pieces of plasterboard! Have patience, and watch this space in September for news of when we are taking inspections and dogs….which is what we are here for!
NOTE: We should explain that this whole project started with the thought of “Let’s go on holiday” over two years ago. Peter had never used his passport, or had ever been abroad. But we chose to visit Crete. The rest is history, and may make an amusing book if we ever have time.”
But, in the meantime, here is a poem by Kimberley:….

Mad English
“Let’s go on holiday”
Two years now
She got me away
I don’t know how

Live in Crete
She said next
Trick or treat
But had effect
Heart sinking,
But got me thinking
OK we run a nudist campsite
She baulked with fright

No—a dog hotel
Our own “Puppy” as well
“Let’s go on holiday”
I had no say
Two years on, I’m going grey
Understanding the Greek way
Bureaucracy—so slow
Stop—then maybe go

A new life:-
She not even my wife
All coming together
Our Greek life together
A nip and a tuck
A lot of luck
Mad English maybe
Wait and see

What have I done, I ask
This momentous task
“Let’s go on holiday”
But I wouldn’t want
Her.. any other way
