Apologies for a typo with last month’s crossword clues—we ended up with two entries for 27 across, one of which should have been for 32 across…. Oh well, never say we don't set you a challenge! This month our thoughts turn to astronauts (poetic, eh?!). As usual, you’ll also find solutions to last month’s puzzles on this page.

Logic Problem #19: Fancy Dress

Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle - Logic Problem #19

Four young men have the misfortune to arrive at functions clad in highly inappropriate fancy dress. From the clues below, work out who went where, what costume each person wore, why they got it wrong in the first place, and what the reaction was when they got there.

Bruce’s sartorial faux pas was the result of being sent the wrong invitation. George, who had spent a lot of time and money on his giant chicken outfit, was not the person who went to the wrong address. Nathan was not dressed as batman nor was his the costume that prompted a round of applause. Rupert’s costume caused a stunned silence at the Charity Ball

The person who mistakenly turned up at the Vicar’s Tea Party was forcibly evicted by some ecclesiastical heavies. On the other hand, nobody seemed to take any notice of the person dressed as Batman at the Embassy Reception.

The person who went to the wrong address was not the person who went to the Charity Ball dressed as a banana. The man who showed up at the Military Parade did so as the result of an elaborate practical joke.

SOLUTION TO PROBLEM #18, July 2008. 1: Devious Dickie, Suncream, Interpol Agent, Conference, Monastery. 2: Feckless Finbar, Towel, Boss, Visiting Mother, Kafeneion. 3: Sneaky Shirley, Melon, Lover, Quarantine, Cave. 4: Tricky Trixie, Book, Cousin, Faked Death, Mountain Village.
