Grand Dam?
The picture on the right shows the Amari Dam, which has been a source of controversy for many years. During the
planning stage, many environmentalists were up in arms at the choice of location, which Is an area of natural beauty. However,
now that the deed is done, the prevailing attitude is to try and make the best of things, and develop it into a recreational
facility that will benefit the whole community — and of course water supply is a pressing need in this region. July was
extremely hot and we haven’t seen any rain to speak of since the end of May! Hopefully, by the end of August the nights will
start to get a little cooler, in the meantime, we’re sipping long drinks, lazing on the sun loungers and taking long siestas.
It’s a hard life!
August Highlights:
For the August edition we feature the work of turtle conservationists in the region. We bring you snapshots of the Renaissance Festival and give details of the Summer Arts Festival programme. We also have some unique ’heat busting’ ideas. All this plus listings of community events, news and views from around the region and more!
Our Twentieth Edition!

This month we mark the 20th edition of the Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle. How time has flown since we started our first six page issue in January 2007! To celebrate, we have produced a bumper edition — our biggest yet, which we hope you all enjoy reading!
MANY THANKS TO OUR READERS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN THE BUGLE OVER THE LAST TWENTY MONTHS!
