Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle - August 2009

Last month we said that it had been hot in June. We spoke far too soon! July has been characterised by record temperatures and several ‘melting moments’. As a result the Bugle team have now formed the all-new ‘Cretan Vampire Appreciation’ society (we only come out at night!). But seriously folks, we have found that there are several fun ways to enjoy life here whilst beating the heat. In our cover photo you can see the beautiful village of Argiroupolis, famed for its natural springs. This is a great place to visit if you want to cool off and enjoy a leisurely lunch in the shade, and we spent a lovely afternoon there last month. Summer siestas are also a very good thing, we feel, and there’s always the beach of course! It’s a hard life….

August Highlights

On our Spotlight page we focus on lavender growing on Crete. We bring you our music review from the Renaissance Festival which took place in July and also give you details of the Summer Arts Festival which has now started. There is a story about ’cheese in space’ and some innovative cocktail ideas All this plus news and views from around town, updates from local enterprises, details of local community and charity events and much more!

About ‘The Bugle’

The Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle is an independent, monthly FREE publication that was started in January 2007 by the same team responsible for the www.rethymnon.biz website — Kate and Luc Brusten, who have been living and working in Rethymnon for a number of years. The Bugle is geared not only towards the international community living in Rethymnon, but also towards anyone who has an interest in the town. The aim of the publication is to be both informative and light hearted. We welcome feedback and written / photographic contributions from readers. We particularly welcome feature articles that have a Rethymnon slant; if you are considering submitting an article we would ask that you keep to an upper word limit of 500 words.

You will find our contact details and a listing of hard copy distribution outlets at the bottom of our This Month Page.

We hope you enjoy reading our August issue!
