That’s Entertainment!

Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle - That's EntertainmentThe fun continues! As the Renaissance Festival was drawing to a close the Summer Arts Festival began. Once again there is a great programme of entertainment for August. The emphasis is on theatre, but there is plenty of music and dance, too!

August is the big Greek holiday month, and the busiest time of the year in terms of domestic tourism. Don’t expect to have the beach to yourself in the next few weeks! On August the 15th Orthodox Greeks celebrate ‘Panagia’ - which marks the assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven. This is an extremely important religious festival and is also a national holiday. Many villages will be hosting Panigiri (festivals) - the three day festival at Mikri Gonia is one of the better known celebrations in this area.

Summer Arts Festival August Timetable: You’ll find highlights of the programme below. Advance tickets and further information should be available from the Information Kiosk on Four Martyrs‘ Square. Tickets go on sale at the Erofili Theatre (phone 28310 28101) an hour before the performances scheduled starting time. Note: All musical and theatrical performances are scheduled to take place at the Erofili Theatre (Open Air Theatre) at the Fortezza and start at 9.30pm unless otherwise stated. As ever, though, the programme may be subject to last minute changes, so check before you go!
