Crete Kennels: March Update

Peter and Kimberley write:

‘Well, that’s another full month over! Here at Crete Kennels we have had a number of ‘paired dogs’ staying as guests (ie dogs that normally live and sleep together) and so we have accommodated them as they would live at home. When we were planning the kennels, we used the best ideas from Germany, the UK and USA – and we have only recently found out that each area is four times the size required in Australia and New Zealand – so we have ample size to keep friends together.

There are two pairs from last month that we’d like to tell you about– Jay and Archie who really did enjoy the space of the field and Mavro and Suki (Suki only has three legs) who ran around enjoying the freedom of the site.

Towards the end of the month , we had two whole quiet days (only six guests!) which meant we could finally treat the weeds on parts of the site and cordon them off….. there have been questions posted on Crete websites as to the time one should allow after using weed killer to make sure the ground is safe for your dog– please allow two whole days, as we do, just to make sure. Hopefully we can do the boundary areas in late March (depending on the rain) – THEN we think we will be ‘ready’ for the summer….although everything is different on Crete.

Of course the strikes have affected our customers – stuck in Rome, Norway and on the island… thankfully we have been able to adjust our schedules to cope – who knows what will be on strike next (cheeky note from the editor: Lufthansa, perhaps, yet again!).

The way bookings are going here, we have been full up each month since July and have had to disappoint some customers. We now have bookings up to February, (sorry March) 2011 and six kennels are already booked for next Christmas!
