This Month
Carnival Time Again!
We’ve barely had time to draw breath after the Christmas and New Year celebrations and it’s carnival season already! Throughout the month of February there will be various festivities organised in and around the region, culminating in the ‘Grand Parade’ in the centre of Rethymnon on Sunday March 1st. You will find a timetable of events, plus some background information about the history of carnival and associated local traditions on the next page.
It will come as no surprise to regular readers that at the time of going to press, some aspects of the carnival schedule had yet to be finalised….! We will be providing you with further updates as and when we get them on the
www.rethymnon.biz website.
On February 14th it is Valentine’s Day of course, and as you will see, we have mercilessly flagged this in this month’s issue (bite the bullet, chaps, even on Crete, there really is no getting away from it).
If you know of an event that you would like to see publicised in the next issue, please get in touch with us! Our contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Laina’s February Programme
Laina has some great events planned for February at The Akropolis Taverna in Platanes (about 5km East of Rethymnon) - highlights of her programme are presented below. You will also find the programme online at the
www.rethymnon.biz website. Coming into Platanes from the West, The Akropolis is on the left hand side of the road, almost directly opposite Galaxie Car Rental, about 25 metres further on from the Taxi Rank and ‘Happy Train’ stop.
To avoid disappointment please book ahead of time for Fish and Chips Nights (as you will see from the programme, you can now order take away fish and chips as well!) and those famous Sunday Roasts! To contact Laina for information, bookings
and suggestions for the March programme, phone her on 6946 808937.
