Healthy Eating Tips

Many thanks to local nutritionist Uta Wagner for providing us with the following healthy eating tips. Uta writes: ‘Now it's time to eat lots of vegetables! After a big Christmas dinner, with lots of biscuits, raki and champagne - our body has an acidic reaction. Our bodies tend to work best if our blood and cell fluids at a pH value of 7,3 (neutral). Sugar, alcohol and animal fat increase the level of acids and the pH value of the blood lowers. When our body is becoming acidic, it is more susceptible to diseases and infections. Once this happens, the body tries to compensate by drawing on its own natural reserves.

Healthy Eating TipsVegetables, potatoes, fruits and herbs are base building foods. Through a balanced diet, a healthy acid-base balance can be maintained. To help prevent infection, circulation problems and premature aging, current wisdom is that every day we should eat five servings of vegetables and fruit. The best combination is to two servings of fruit and three of vegetable servings. A freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast, potatoes and vegetables for lunch, in the afternoon a piece of fruit and in the evening a fresh salad. Happily, here in Rethymnon, this is not a problem! Once you visit the weekly market, you’ll be spoilt for even the Christmas sins will soon be forgotten! Not only that, but you will also make sure that your body is better able to absorb the minerals out of the food - for example calcium, which creates strong bones. Even repeated deep breathing, for example five minutes every day, helps to neutralize the pH of the blood. (So go after the market to the beach!). Then have a cup of Diktamus or Mountain Tea and your operating system will soon be running like a clockwork!’
