CIC Coffee Mornings: Venue Change for January

The Rethymnon branch of the Cretan International Community meets on the first Thursday of every month. The January meeting will take place on Thursday 03/01/08, 11 am start. All are welcome. Regular attendees please note: due to SVEA undergoing refurbishment, the venue has changed for January—this meeting will now be held at Acropolis Taverna (Laina’s place) in Platanes. Driving East out of Rethymnon, you will find Acropolis Taverna in Platanes, opposite Galaxy car rental, about 25 metres from the taxi stand and ‘Happy Train’ stop. The local coordinator for the Rethymnon branch of the CIC is Anna Capernaros. Please contact her for details of upcoming CIC events and for any membership queries that you may have. Anna may be reached on 28310 57305. You can find further information about the CIC organization itself on the www.thecic.eu

Friends of Animals Rethymno held their Christmas bazaar on Saturday December 1st. The weather was very kind to us (unlike May in the park!) and there was a very good turn out. As the mayor said this is one event where you really do witness the worthwhile aspects of international collaboration with native Rethymniots. The Bugle was going to press just as the Grand Draw was being held (December 27th), so we will bring you updates of funds raised by the bazaar and raffle in our February issue.

In February we also hope to bring you details of funds raised by the CIC Christmas bazaar which took place in Hania on December 8th and 9th. The 2007 Christmas bazaar was of special significance for us here in Rethymnon, as it was the first time some of the money raised has been earmarked for the Rethymnon Branch of the Red Cross. Thanks to all who supported these events. New Cancer Support Group

A Cancer Support Group has been formed for people who have been through or who are undergoing treatment for cancer, as well as for someone who has recently lost someone to cancer. These are the needs of the current group. It is a diverse group for now and different groups can be formed later on an "as needed" basis. This is a support group not a therapy group, and confidentiality is a given. There is no fee. Meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month (January 7th, February 4th, March 3rd, etc) in Georgioupolis, at the Samaria in the square, from 11 AM - 1 pm. Carpooling available from Rethymnon. Any questions or comments can be directed to Chris - 6977559644 or email cparnassus@hotmail.com
