Crete Kennels: Onward and Upward!
Thanks to Peter and Kimberley for providing us with their July update: “Another month gone by and we have had even more
guests… people as well as dogs (it must be the summer flights). We are at a loss to know what to make of some of the
ideas provided by well meaning visitors – our field should be for potatoes (do they know how much irrigation is needed?)
or ‘why don’t we have a cattery ? Dogs and cats – oh what a mix! And, in any case, like many businesses here, we have
decided to specialize. We are a Dog Hotel!
Here we are planning ahead for the August holidays… not ours you understand… but with mid August being peak summer holiday time
in Greece, we are anticipating additional bookings. After that we will be looking ahead towards Christmas. As we have decided to set
a limit of 10 kennels this may mean that we will have to turn away late bookings. HINT to those going away – we already have taken
some Christmas bookings, so book ahead of time! The summer spell of dry weather means that we can finalise our plans for the winter
for new paddocks, an exercise track and extra drainage (it will rain in the autumn).
So, we’re very busy and our apologies to our friends in Crete that we don’t see very often … it can sometimes seem odd that we are
not available to attend parties, etc….. but that’s the job of running a hotel… the guests come first….the only difference being, we
are open 52 weeks a year!
Canine tip of the month… If you have a large dog, it helps the digestion to raise feeding bowls off the ground. A simple and cheap
solution is to buy stainless steel dishes from the market and set them into the tops of flower pots (placed out of the sun of
course).”
