Summer ‘Chat and Swim’ Meetings at Camping ElizabethDuring the summer, additional ’chat and swim meetings’ will be held on the third Thursday of the month from 1pm at Camping Elizabeth, the general assembly point is at the campsite taverna which is a good place to have lunch. Camping Elizabeth is on the beach at Missiria, a few kilometers east of Rethymnon (just past Perivolia on the Old Road). The beach is ‘wild’ so you might want to bring your own beach mats and umbrellas…. Friends of Animals: Report on Spring Bazaar.
Friends of Animals Rethymno are now sending out their own newsletter and re-homing lists via email. The Group Says ‘Thank You’ Chris Parnassus and Allison Collett write: ‘On behalf of the Cancer Support Group we would like to thank the Cretan Corner Friday Coffee Mornings, Megala Horafia, for their generous donation of 200 euros towards our costs. The money is being used to print publicity leaflets to be distributed in local hospitals and clinics and whomever asks for more information. The printing was organized by graphic designer Gianna Iliakaki. We hope to increase awareness in the community and have a website so that information can be shared more discreetly. Your support is very greatly appreciated! Thank you once again!’

The Rethymnon branch of the Cretan International Community meets on the first Thursday of every month at Svea’s Konditori, Kapetan Lemonia 3, Rethymnon, from 11am. The June meeting will take place on Thursday 05/06/08, and the July meeting will take place on Thursday 03/07/08. Everyone, young and old, regardless of membership status is welcome to attend. The CIC coffee mornings are a great way to meet others from the international community, and to find out about up-and-coming local events. The Friends of Animals Spring Bazaar was held on May 11th at Camping Elizabeth. Fortunately the weather Gods were much kinder to us this year than last (as some of you may recall, the 2007 FAR Spring Bazaar in May in the park was a bit of a washout, and then the ‘re-run’ held in June was during the first heat-wave of the summer).
This year, on the other hand the weather couldn’t have been better: glorious sunshine but not too hot. A total of €1,200 was raised on the day, and FAR would like to thank everyone who helped to support this event.
A Cancer Support Group has been formed for people who have been through or who are undergoing treatment for cancer, as well as for someone who has recently lost someone to cancer. These are the needs of the current group. It is a diverse group for now and different groups can be formed later on an "as needed" basis. This is a support group not a therapy group, and confidentiality is a given. There is no fee. Meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month (February 4th, March 3rd, etc) in Georgioupolis, at the Samaria in the square, from 11 AM - 1 pm. Carpooling available from Rethymnon.
