Peter and Kimberley write: ‘It’s fair to say that summer has truly arrived (well if one discounts the 8 inches of rain we had in just one day last month)! Anyway, here at Crete Kennels as the days get hotter we are having to revise our arrangements for viewings etc. From now until the autumn, we are setting aside the afternoon period from 1pm to 4pm for the dogs to take a rest from the sun. So, sorry, please, no visitors during those times. As ever though, we welcome inspections of the kennels at other times if made by appointment

‘With the summer, many of those not working in the tourist industry start to think of holidays. One of the knock-on effects of the global economic crisis has been the increase in cheap flights to various parts of Europe and the UK. As a result, Crete Kennels is already 75% full for July and August. So, if you are thinking of travelling this summer and need us to accommodate your dog, please let us know as soon as possible (even if your dates are only provisional at the moment) to avoid disappointment.

‘As regular readers will know, one of Peters’ pet subject is the saga of the grass. Well, finally after many trials and tribulations (grass seed being washed away and being eaten by sheep etc.) it is now growing well! And as you can see from the photos, the older and smaller dogs in particular are now enjoying full use of the extra flat space (1000 sq m) in which to play. We have also left a small piece of the field to grow wild for poppies etc. Even with our busy lifestyle we still take time to smell the flowers along the way!’

Canine tips for the month….It’s getting hot, so put out at least TWO bowls of water in the shade for your pet just in case, and remember to refill them regularly. If your dog spends time outside on concrete or tiles, hose down the surfaces a couple of times each day will help get some moisture into the air.
