Return Trip to Zarós in April!

Just after Easter last year, some of us went on a group excursion to Zarós, which is a beautiful village towards the South of the Psiloritis mountain range, known for its fresh water springs and beautiful surroundings. The village is also near to the famous sites of Festos, Agia Triada and Gortys (you can find out more about Zarós in our feature articles in the April and May 2008 editions, and also about some of the highlights of the previous group excursion).
We had a great time, and are planning a return visit on April 23rd/24th (the Thursday to Friday after Orthodox Easter). As last year, we don’t want to make this an over - organised trip, but on the grounds of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ here are a couple of plans, and it would be helpful if we could get an idea of numbers ahead of time, ideally before the end of March—not least because, as you will see below, the Rethymnon posse has been offered some preferential rates in a couple of places. The suggestion is that we could start by rewarding ourselves with a decent lunch at the Taverna Votomos (Trout Farm) at around 1pm, and pretty much do our own thing after that for the rest of the day. There are various places to stay in Zaros, we’ve been offered the following deal by Vivi for Studio Keramos: 34 Euros for a double room (17 Euros per person) which includes Kyria Katerina’s legendary breakfast and ‘welcome teas and coffees’. Vivi has also proposed a set rate for supper at her restaurant Vegera of 12 Euros per head which will incorporate ’some free wine and raki’.
If you are interested in participating contact Kate or Luc at the Bugle via email, snail mail or phone. Directions and finalised details will be given in our April issue. Looking forward to it, and hope to see you there!
