Carnival GalleryFun, Fun, Fun!Here at the Bugle we think it is no exaggeration to say that Rethymnon Carnival 2010 was the best yet. We certainly had a brilliant time, and we say a big thank you to Olga and all at ‘Emeis kai Emeis’ for welcoming us to the team! It was the first time we had actually been in the parade and we really enjoyed ourselves. Time went really fast as we were doing the samba from Perivolia to the park. Being oldies, we did feel it in our knees (and back, and hips) the next day, though. But it was worth it! Over 15,000 people (39 teams) participated in the Grand Parade on 14th February, and, generally speaking, things went very smoothly on the day. Our sources at the Red Cross quoted fewer casualties than last year (we don’t have the exact figures, but they were very low in any case, especially given the size and nature of the event), which is fantastic news. Throughout the whole of the carnival period the atmosphere was happy and peaceful (if not exactly quiet!) - and, even though we’ve said it before, this town really knows how to party! Crisis? What crisis?! Here are a few snapshots from the big day, and many thanks to Ian for taking photos for us whilst we were dancing in the streets. You’ll find more carnival pictures at the Rethymnon Coffee Morning Facebook group, and also on the www.rethymnon.biz website.
