CIC Coffee Mornings in May and June
The Rethymnon branch of the Cretan International Community has its lovely
social get-together on the first Thursday of every month at Svea’s Konditori,
Kapetan Lemonia 3, Rethymnon, from 11am. The May meeting will take place on
Thursday 07/05/09, and the June meeting will take place on Thursday 04/06/09.
Everyone, regardless of membership status is welcome to attend. The CIC coffee
mornings are a great way to meet others from the international community, to
exchange news and views, and to find out about up-and-coming local events. The
local coordinator for the Rethymnon branch of the CIC is Anna Capernaros. Anna
may be reached on 28310 57305. The President of the CIC is Debra Papadinoff, her
contact number is 6938 639823.
You can find further information about the CIC organization itself on the
www.thecic.eu website.
The Crossword Competition!
In March, we launched our ‘all new crossword competition’, and many thanks go
to Albert Van Elst for coming up with this idea to make our puzzle page (this
month Page 8) ‘a prize crossword’ page. The rules go like this. Submit your
entries to us by the copy deadline (you can do this via email, or by snail mail
at Patr. Grigoriou 11 — mailbox is outside the house if you are passing by), and
each month we will publish a running tally of top five scorers. At the end of
the year, the top scoring contestant(s) will win a meal for two courtesy of the
Bugle. We had no entries in the first month, but in April, hooray!
Two entries were submitted. Congratulations and thanks go to Judy Hall
who gained 5 points for getting the whole crossword correct, and also to Trevor
and Linda Sanders (narrowly beaten into second place with a minor error) who now
have 4 points. Keep those entries rolling in!
The Bugle Group on Facebook
As
some of you will already know, in February we launched an online group for the
Bugle on Facebook (the social networking site). It’s an open group, anyone can
join, and we would love to receive your feedback, suggestions for features, and
photos etc. It’s also another way for us to post details of up and coming events
as and when they happen - in between publication dates - and to make
announcements . And remember, the forum on
www.rethymnon.biz is
alive and kicking, too!

Summer ‘Arts, Crafts and Local Produce’ Table Top
Sales: Call for Participants
Kath
Walls would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in participating in
table top sales of arts, crafts and local produce, that would take place in
Amari village on one Sunday per month between June and October (probably on the
second or third Sunday of each month).
The emphasis will be on promoting individually created works of art,
handicrafts and homemade produce that have a Cretan ‘theme’ (rather than on
mass-produced items). Kath would also be interested to hear from people who
would like to give demonstrations of art and craft techniques, and those who
would like to showcase traditional local skills. To find out more, phone Kath on
28330 22265 6949419571.
Cancer Support Group
A
Cancer Support Group has been formed for people who have been through or who are
undergoing treatment for cancer, as well as for someone who has recently lost
someone to cancer. These are the needs of the current group. It is a diverse
group for now and different groups can be formed later on an "as needed" basis.
This is a support group not a therapy group, and confidentiality is a given.
There is no fee. Meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month in
Georgioupolis, at the Samaria in the square, from 11 AM - 1 pm. Carpooling
available from Rethymnon. Any questions or comments can be directed to Chris -
