Crete Kennels: Spring Update
Peter
and Kimberley write: ‘So Easter has been and gone. We had the usual scenario of
frantic phone calls from owners trying to book in their dogs at the last minute,
and, of course, some people were disappointed that we were full (especially
those who tried to book one day in advance!). But as we have said before, our
strict number limit on the amount of dogs we will accommodate helps us to ensure
that we will give the best individual quality care for our canine guests at any
time of year.
‘We didn’t have time to make the Easter Bonnets that we had planned for
the dogs (the card, ribbons etc. are still on the kitchen table), but we
spent our time looking after a lovely variety of canine friends. In any
case, we’re not entirely sure that Zento, the 60 kg Rottweiler (pictured
in the photo top right) would have appreciated the hat, anyway. As you
can see, Zento really took to Kimberley but we also hope that all our
guests enjoyed the sunshine and their holiday with us.
‘On another note: Apparently there is a new ‘Hotel for Dogs’ that has
been recently advertising on Greek Radio. Just to clear up any
confusion, this is not connected in any way with Crete Kennels. As far
as we understand it the ’New Hotel’ specializes in training guard dogs.

As
we reported last month, we don’t take guard dogs as guests - and as we
also said :“If your dog is tied up all the time, does not like people or
other dogs, never gets treated as a pet – then it IS actually a guard
dog”. Nevertheless, if this new enterprise is taking their task
seriously, we wish them well.
‘And finally, we’d like to set some things straight regarding our prices.
To make things clear, we don’t charge 20 Euros for each and every night
(some owners who have called up us have thought this to be the case).
From our advertisement below you will see that as in any good hotel our
rates vary according to the length of stay. And, of course, here at
Crete Kennels we will provide quotes for individual canine wants and
needs.
Best wishes to everyone for a lovely summer!’
Canine tips for the month: Remember the ‘tick collars’ are now
essential! And, now that the sunshine tempts owners to let their pets in for a
swim in the sea, please wash or rinse the salt water off after the dip. The salt
water can cause intense irritation to the dog – also any sand flies that your
dog picks up from the beach need to be washed out straight away.
