A Traveller’s Tale: Madonna in Athens!

A traveller's Tale: Madonna in AthensA traveller's Tale: Madonna in AthensMany thanks go to Julio, our roving reporter who went to see Madonna in Athens in September for sharing his experience with us. Julio is a waiter at the Caribbean Restaurant by the Rimondi fountain in the centre of Rethymnon. During the summer, like many others who work with tourists, Julio puts in long hours every day of the week. As many big names only come to perform here in Greece during the summer, Julio finds it difficult to get to see the artists he would like to. It has always been a dream for him to see Madonna, and he is still walking on ‘cloud nine’ after the experience. He first found about the concert in May. He bought his tickets online, and as soon as they arrived in June, booked time off from the restaurant. The concert was held in the Olympic Stadium in Athens in front of a crowd of more than 70,000 people. The verdict? According to Julio it was a once in a lifetime experience. In his opinion Madonna was the absolute consummate performer. She sang a good selection of old and new songs, and the stadium was absolutely jumping. His recommendation? If you get the chance to go and see her — do! Going to a big concert in Athens is something different to do from the standard ‘museums and A traveller's Tale: Hard Rock Cafe in AthensA traveller's Tale: Hard Rock Cafe in Athensarchaeological sites’ trail . A good new source of information for Athens listings is ‘Athens Plus’: a weekly English language supplement to the Kathimerini newspaper. You can access this online at www.ekathimerini.com

Whilst Julio was in Athens, he also visited the Hard Rock Café for the first time which he also enjoyed very much — more Madonna! Julio has definitely got the concert bug now, and we look forward to hearing more about his travel experiences during the course of this winter. Rock on!
