CIC Coffee Mornings

The Rethymnon branch of the Cretan International Community meets on the first Thursday of every month at SVEA’s Konditori, Kapetan Lemonia 3, Rethymnon from 11 a.m—all are welcome to attend. The September meeting will take place on Thursday 06/09/07, and the October meeting will be on Thursday 04/10/07. The local coordinator for the Rethymnon branch of the CIC is Anna Capernaros. Please contact her for details of upcoming CIC events and for any membership queries that you may have. Anna may be reached on 28310 57305. Further information about the CIC organization itself may be found on the www.thecic.eu website. Thursday September 20th will be the last time this year that the additional summer ‘chat and swim’ meeting will be hosted at Camping Elizabeth. This takes place from 2pm onwards, general assembly point campsite taverna—which is a good place to have lunch. Camping Elizabeth is on the beach at Missiria, a few kilometres east of Rethymnon (just past Perivolia on the Old Road). The beach is ‘wild’ (!) so —weather permitting— you might want to bring your own beach mats / umbrellas.

Collection for Greek Red Cross
Bob Wright will be making a collection for the Rethymnon branch of the Greek Red Cross at the next CIC coffee morning. Contributions go towards helping people in the Rethymnon region who have somehow slipped through the net. Please give generously!

Singing for Fun!

Chris would also be interested to hear from anyone who would be interested in joining a singing group — to sing oldies, gospel tunes and/or songs from musicals, just for fun. And is there a piano player out there who would like to act as accompanist? We know that there is a choral group in Agios Nikolaos, but this is a bit far for those of us who live on the Western side of the island to travel.

Bridge Club

If anyone would be interested in forming a bridge (card game) club, please contact Caroline Sakalis, who lives in Gerani, on 28310 32559 / 6945914265. Caroline is keen to meet up with any fellow Bridge enthusiasts who live in the Rethymnon region.

For those prepared to travel further field may be interested to know that the Duplicate Bridge Club of Hania meets at Akali Hotel, 55 Kissamos Street, Hania, every Monday and Wednesday evenings. Lessons are given in Greek and English. For further information, contact Debra Papadinoff, phone 6938 639823.

Community Volunteering

The Association of Rethymnon Volunteers meets every Tuesday evening at The Centre for Cretan Folk Art. This group brings together a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds who are interested in contributing in one way or another to the local community. There are many ways in which people can contribute—some of which may not be immediately obvious. To find out more about different types of volunteering opportunities in the Rethymnon region, contact: Odysseas Savopoulos, A. Velouhioti 31 (on the Beach Road near Atlantis Beach Hotel) Email odyseasthecyclist@hotmail.com Phone 28310 58178 / mobile 6948279506.
