Crete Kennels: September Update

Coffee Morning Bugle - Crete KennelsPeter and Kimberley write: ‘Well, summer’s almost over so, like all good hotels, it’s maintenance time! This means a month of painting to freshen up the kennels for our guests and installation of a new water system. Water in the tank is only used for high pressure cleaning of the kennels and watering the grass for the dogs to run on– we only use bottled drinking water for the dogs and any storage tank in this heat is prone to all sorts of nasty germs – but with plenty of disinfectant we are able to keep the kennels up to our standards of cleanliness.

‘Like many ex-pats, we have had our share of visitors this year – some back for the second year running. Returning visitors have noticed the improvements that have taken place in the kennels over the past year. The wet-weather/exercise area has attracted particular attention - people have been taken aback at the sight of green grass in the midst of the desert that surrounds us. It takes a lot of work, but well worth it to see the dogs enjoying something different.

‘On a flying visit to Kent for his son’s wedding at the beginning of the month, Peter realized that he had missed the green fields of England… but, on the other hand it did rain for the 4 days he was there! On a serious note, some ex-pats are now being hit by the economic down-turn in England (Pensions aren’t what they used to be) but the simple life in Crete and the sun makes many of us glad we escaped ! Next month we will be getting ready for the winter – new paddocks, additional drainage and getting ready to sow the field and plant our trees. If you have a dog, it’s well worth a visit to see us – but please phone first.’
