Crete Kennels: Happy Anniversary to Kimberley and Peter

Rethymnon Coffee Morning Bugle - May 2008 - Crete KennelsApril 2008 came and Kimberley and Peter have had a lot to celebrate. It’s a year since they have been officially living on Crete. So much has happened since then (don’t we just know it?!). In July 2007 The Bugle went from ten pages to twelve (having started out as a mere six page spread in January 2007) and this was when we launched our first ’Enterprising Locals’ page. And our first ’Enterprising Locals’ were….? Yes, you’ve guessed it, Kimberley and Peter, with their vision, in the beautiful countryside just outside Armeni. Some could say that we have grown together. Anyway, cut to the chase editor, before you get all misty eyed. In July last year, Kimberley and Peter were getting to grips with local builders and ’time off’ due to Saints’ days. In August, it was getting close, but there was still the minor detail of electricity to sort out — along with making sure that everything would be just right to welcome canine guests. In September, the electricity was getting ever closer: “We have poles” is the proud announcement in that issue. Also in the September issue is the invite for the October ‘Kennel Warming’ party. It was a very good party for dogs and owners alike. In October, Crete Kennels was up and running for real. Brilliant. And in November, there was the little ‘time-out’ holiday in Athens: to re-group and gear up for the winter season. Kimberley’s idea of chilling out was to participate in one of the Athens Marathon distance events and to storm into the Ancient Stadium on a Sunday morning, knocking about 10 minutes off her personal best for running 10 km (and before you ask, yes, she can run the distance in under an hour). Training notes: ’Well, I did my circuits (round the whole island?!) during the heatwave in August on Crete which helped’. Bravo! And the Bugle Crew and Kennel Contingent did have a great weekend in the Capital. Back on Crete, and the Christmas bookings were coming in thick and fast. Many winter guests arrived for the first time, and, in the New Year many have returned!

Canine Friends

Of course, the whole point of Crete Kennels is to provide a loving and safe place for dogs, whilst their human guardians are away on their travels. It is also a place of learning and interaction: Kimberley and Peter, whilst being experts in their field are fully aware that there is always something new to discover about canine welfare! Over the past few months, the Bugle editorial crew have been up to the kennels many times, and have met several of the hotel guests — who have come in all shapes and sizes — all of them lovely in their different ways. We look forward to meeting many more in the years to come. Congratulations to both Kimberley and Peter, and all the best for your second year!
