Crete Kennels: Open Day!

Peter and Kimberley provide us with this month’s update about progress at Crete Kennels:

“We have now had six months living on Crete. Wot, still no electric?....but we do have poles—oh, and absolutely latest news, we have cables. Siga, siga, when in Rome and all that stuff…. October sees Kimberley and Peter (plus the new addition Krista) ready and raring to look after your dogs. Many thanks to those that came along to have a look, inspected our premises, did their business on the grass and made themselves at home—and that’s only the owners! Seriously, thanks to all for the interest shown and for the firm bookings that we have received so far.

We extend a cordial INVITATION to an OPEN DAY (well 1/2 day) at Crete Kennels on Saturday 20th October from 12 noon until 6 p.m. Do come along and bring your owners. Free Water, and red wine, Metaxa, ouzo, raki or even Rethymnon beer to toast to the future, there may even be a bag of crisps. Be nosy, the Coffee Morning Bugle were, and all they got were the crisps (well plus a few rakis) [Editor’s note: this isn’t true, we received great hospitality when we visited]. To contact Crete Kennels, phone: Peter on 6949688722, Kimberley on 6949784183, email cretekennels@hotmail.co.uk

To get to Crete Kennels: Leaving Rethymnon, follow the Spili road. Crete Kennels is two kilometres past Armeni, turn off to the right, by the Rethymnon Brewery—Crete Kennels will be signed, too. If you do want any additional directions, just give us a call! We look forward to welcoming you all on the day.”

Once again, Kimberley has been kind enough to give us a poetic insight into their life here so far….

Our Move to Crete Means….
You meet a girl running a Taverna on the beach
Who is married to a Greek….
But she went to Furzham School, Brixham, Devon
You have the irony of throwing away cold coffee in England
But order ‘frappe’ on Crete
You have to cultivate the ‘siesta’ even though
Your partner sleeps every afternoon in England anyway
You scour every Taverna here for Moussaka in February
When it’s on the menu at Exeter Service Station
You retire from your part-time jobs in England
To work full time in the Crete Kennels
You wake up every morning knowing what to wear….
It’s always the little black number….!
With cigarettes at £2.00 a packet you still wake up coughing
But in England it was the damp weather that got the blame!
You have a healthy diet of Feta, Fish, Bread and Olive Oil
Only because you can’t pronounce anything else.
You drink bottled water - clean and pure
But you drink it with Raki, Ouzo and Metaxa.
It’s all bloody Greek to us..
But a smile is a smile wherever you are!
